     Windsor International Airshow, Ontario, Canada
August 21-22, 2010 (Photos taken 8-22)

Diversity is good.  Especially when it allows me to find and visit new and different airshows with warbirds I have not seen before.  The 2010 Windsor International Airshow fits my definition exactly.  I visited this second year show and was able to view several warbirds not seen before but also witness several non warbird acts for the first time, such as the Brazilian Air Force Smoke Squadron, Jackie Warda, American Barnstormer and The Canadian Forces CH-146 Griffon Helicopter Demo.  I had not seen the Canadian Snowbirds in at least 10 years so it was good to view their outstanding nine ship performance again.

All of the warbirds were great.  Unfortunately low grey clouds overhead at the beginning and then end of the show hindered capturing the great colors on the some of the warbirds in the photos below.  During the middle of the show the clouds cleared up and the photography improved.  The diversity of this event allowed me to see fly for the first time the CWH Lysander and Firefly.  The Firefly with the Griffon Engine had the highest db level while in my estimation the Avro Lancaster with its excellent airmanship demonstrated by its pilots making it handle like a fighter was the performance of the day.

This was excellent airshow and warbird diversity.  Make sure to put it on your list for next year.  I have!

The pre show included fly-bys by this Harvard just taking off and the Tiger Moth below.

Boeing PT-17 Stearman.

Chipmunk.

Formation flyby.

North American P-51 Mustang.

Hawker Hurricane.

Canadian Mustang just lifting off.

The Hurricane went into a maximum performance climb on takeoff.  Note the open cockpit.

Climbing out!

Underside view of the Hurricane.

While not a warbird the four bladed CH-146 Griffon is an updated version of the venerable Huey and put on an outstanding demonstration.

The sky turned blue for the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team.

Fairey Firefly.

The Avro Lancaster from the Canadian Warplane Heritage taxies out for what will be an exciting flight demonstration.

On the take off roll!

The Detroit skyline to the west is in the background as the Lancaster racks it around for a photo pass.

Lysander taxiing out with the Lancaster turning around in the background for another great airshow pass.

This turns like a big four engine fighter.

The Fairey Firefly from the Canadian Warplane Heritage in a nice photo pass.

This photo gives a nice view of the clipped wings along with searchlight and radar pod.

The Westland Lysander takes off.  This is the first time I have ever seen a Lysander fly.

Viper North L-29 also on static display.
