Wings and Wheels Air Show, Kokomo, IN
July 3, 2010

This was the second annual Wings and Wheels at the Kokomo, IN (Howard County) airport and this year with the excellent weather an prime crop of Warbirds were present for both the static and flying displays.  Twelve Warbirds were on hand:  BT-13, C-45, L-19, PT-17, PT-19, PT-26, PV-2, P-51, (2)T-6's, T-28, and a T-34.  The warbirds came from three states including the PT-17 that came all the way from Arizona if the FAA Registry is up to date.  The show is set among corn and soybean fields in prime Indiana farm country which makes great background for the show and photos.  Hopefully this great little show with the excellent warbird content organized by Steve and Laura Stants of the Warbird Training Center at the Howard County Airport and all their hard working volunteers that contributed will continue into the future.

Bill and Debbie Finney from Muncie, IN brought over for static display their L-19 Birddog.

Alan Hoover all the way from Paulden, AZ flew in with his Boeing PT-17 for static display.

Nicky and Jordan Brown rest after polishing down their new Beech C-45.  This warbird is new to the Indiana Warbird scene and is kept at the Terre Haute, IN airport.

Ed Escallon from Elwood, IN had his Fairchild PT-19 on display at the event this year.  Ed keeps this great looking Cornell at the Anderson Airport.

Walt Gdowski made an appearance with his great looking T-28 but had to return to his home airport at Indianapolis Metro to also support the airport open house that was being held concurrently with the Kokomo Wings and Wheels.

The American Military Heritage Foundation located at the Mt.Comfort Airport on the east side of Indianapolis brought in for the event its very rare Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon.

Nathan Davis of Tipton, IN keeps this excellently polished P-51 Mustang at the Kokomo, IN Airport.

This highly polished T-6G came all the way for the event from Danville, IL and the Midwest Aviation Museum located there.

Another view of one of only two Lockheed PV-2s that are flyable in the world today.

This Checktail T-6D also belongs to Nathan Davis of Tipton, IN and is also hangared at the Kokomo airport.

David Rothenanger (R+10) came up from Indianapolis in his T-34.

Another view of the new C-45 warbird now in Indiana.

This great looking PT-26 is operated by the Indiana Wing of the Commemorative Air Force operating out of Indianapolis Executive Airport.

Greg Mahler's BT-13 is drawing attention from several spectators.

On the take-off roll.

Dave Rothenanger making a nice photo pass in this T-34 with smoke on.

The Harpoon like a lot of other aircraft looks a little ungainly on the ground.  But once in the air she is in her element and looks good.  This PV-2 is named Hot Stuff.

Laura Stants making a low pass for the spectators in the T-6.

Nathan Davis gives the air show spectators a nice photo pass in his Checkertail P-51.

Nice fly-by of the T-6G.

Jordan Brown gives the crowd a nice air show fly-by in his C-45.

Laura Stants on final approach for landing.

Hot Stuff on the approach.  Note the large Fowler Flaps and the nose art.

This Twin Beech is so well polished one can see the refection of the end of the runway black and white stripes reflected in the bottom of the aircraft.

Nathan Davis getting ready to touch down and conclude the day's flying.

This was taken just after the flying show had ended and the ramp was still sterilized.

Another photo as the ramp was just being re-opened to the public.
