Static Display Warbird Photo Review
C-47 "That's All, Brother" at the
National Museum of the United States Air Force - July 28-31 (Photos taken
7-28-2024.)
This is the second time in four years that
the C-47 "That's all, Brother" has been on static display at the
National Museum of the United States Air Force. It is also the
fourth year in a row that the museum had flying vintage warbirds on
display outside at its active runway. Because the museum is one of
my favorite places to visit and is within a two hour drive from my
house, I have always been able to attend and document these events.
The museum has instituted a really good program, and I like
visiting these "mini" warbird events.
It was really hot on the afternoon of July
28th as a small crowd of enthusiasts waited in the shade of the trees
next to the museum for the arrival of "That's All, Brother." I
have found that the persons that come out to see these events are
divided into two groups. The first consists of warbird and
aviation enthusiasts like myself. The second group consists of
families. In the past two years, I sat next to and talked with
parents that brought their children out to see a historic aircraft land
and then tour it. To a large extent, these persons are not very
familiar with the aircraft that were arriving. But they know they are
historically important, and the parents want their children to see them.
It was 2:02pm and this long distance shot
was
when I first saw the aircraft to the west of the museum complex.
We were treated to a missed approach and
then wheels up fly-by of the C-47.
Then the C-47 landed into a stiff wind. It
was really windy that afternoon as we waited for the aircraft's arrival.
After the C-47 landed and was towed back
near the gate of the fence, the crowd was able to tour the aircraft.
The annual arrival of visiting warbirds is
something I look forward to each year now. I hope the museum
continues these events into future years.
